Copying services

Copies are provided solely by Library staff or their authorised agents.

The type of copy which can be supplied may depend on:

  • whether the material has already been copied
  • the purpose for which you require the copy
  • the physical format and condition of the original.

Please note that, for preservation reasons, the Library does not photocopy bound manuscript material. This includes a substantial proportion of the archive and manuscript collections, including almost all the Archbishops' papers, Fulham papers (of the Bishops of London), and much of the manuscripts sequence (MSS).

    Printouts from existing microform

Some material has already been microfilmed, and existing copies will be used when possible. Card indexes of existing films are available, and the Library staff are happy to check these on behalf of enquirers. There is a self-service microform printer in the Reading Room (the use of which is subject to copyright law), or printouts can be ordered:

    Film photography and new microfilming

Where material has already been photographed, the Library does not normally re-photograph. Card indexes of negatives/transparencies are available, and Library staff are happy to check these on behalf of inquirers. Some transparencies of Library material are held at the Bridgeman Art Library.

The library reserves the right to retain any negative and the copyright in any negative which it may require. The library does not sell colour transparencies over 35mm, but may loan them to a named publisher.

For information concerning new film photography and new microfilming, and a copy of the order form, please contact the Library. On receipt of the completed order form, an invoice will be sent. See Permission for reproduction for information and forms for material to be published.
